Stained Glass

About

You just can't beat Thanksgiving in Paris. The view from the top of the Eiffel tower is fantastic. You can see the pyramids, the statue of liberty and the New York skyline, Bally's, Ceasar's Palace, and the Bellagio. Turkey day in Vegas, while it isn't the traditional setting, it's a fun time with family.

This is a view that brings pure joy to my heart...rows and rows of books. I buy books as often as other people buy CDs. As an English major in college, I never sold back my books because they were the start of my personal library. One day I hope to have an actual library in my house, a Miss Scarlet did it in the library with a candlestick kinda library, complete with a ladder on wheels.

Over the weekend I finished my latest stained glass project. It's a type of abstract piece that I've been wanting to do for a while. I think it is very well suited to the taste of my friend Katie. She influenced my choice of glass for this window...mostly opaque glass without much color variance in each piece so she could enjoy it leaned against a wall in the shabby chic syle.

Bowlers Gone Wild!
Behold the frightening reality of free drinks. Yes, these are my co-workers. Well, technically they work for Cars.com. Enough said.

I didn't adjust the color of this picture at all. The sky was actually that color blue at dusk. If it weren't for the skyscrapers, you might think you were in Arizona...but then, the fact that you wear a down parka to the office places you firmly in Chicago.

I have a solution to the cold this winter. In a complete fit of self pampering I bought a membership to the new health club across the street from my apartment. How does one pamper themself on a treadmill you might ask? And how is this a solution to chronic coldness? I follow my brief run with a soak in the hot tub, a sit in the steam room and a siesta in the dry sauna.

Jace and I caught some good improv at Second City tonight. We also caught this woman with more than the tag hanging out of her shirt. I knew a girl in college who would buy something, leave on the price tag, wear it several times, decide she didn't like it and return it 30 days later. I suspect this candy-cane-gone-wrong sweater will find it's way to back to the Gap.

Colleen and I went to an art show in Evanston featuring art supply vendors. This woman gave a demonstration of several techniques for creating decorative paper...made me think of dying easter eggs. Shows like this are a great place to pick up inspiration and demo products.

The firetrucks were out in the south loop on Friday during the lunch hour. The building down the block from mine had a small fire. Let this be a lesson to us all that it might be a funny idea to set our boss's desk on fire, but probably not a good one to act on.

Enduring Chicago in the winter requires an occasional escape to somewhere warm. Good thing I know people in places like Tucson and Sarasota. Yet, somehow, the airlines also know that people living in cold places want to go to warm places on their vacations. I am honestly shocked by the prices for tickets over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. My usual tactics and resources for ferreting out a cheap airfare have proved unsuccessful. If I were rich, I wouldn't be staying with family. Maybe I should turn this into a charity Web site and you all can send me your frequent flyer miles via paypal.
