Remember when carving a pumpkin required imagination? Well, today you get a kit with patterns and tools. Spooky scenes have replaced the simple faces with circle eyes, triangle noses and gap toothed smiles. I carved Vampira with some friends. We did stick to some traditions, liked baked pumpkin seeds and costumes.

I have a cold. It's not a pretty picture. I've decided to blame it all on Daylight Savings Time. I was perfectly fine last week. I'd come home from work and it would still be daylight. Now, it is pitch black outside when I leave my office. The sun rises as 6:20, but sadly, I don't. So there is no way for me to take advantage of the sunlight in the morning. Which brings us back to my cold. The depressing darkness has lowered my body's immune response. Almost makes me want to move back to Indiana, where people know better than to fiddle with the time. They don't change time in Arizona either...hmmm Arizona.

Chicago skyline from 3500 feet...wow, what an amazing experience. This was my first time flying in a small plane. Dan flew Jace and I up and back from Devil's Lake. We and a dozen others enjoyed a chilly weekend rock climbing and camping, but great climbs and hobo dinners made it fun. Thanks Dan!

The other side of the mirror.
Like Alice going through the looking glass...I, by way of a door marked Private, was able to go behind the one way mirror and observe some consumer testing. This is the stuff where normal folks, identified as the target audience, reveal their true feelings about your product. Why hasn't this caught on in the dating marketplace?

That is one happy cowboy!
My charming urban neighborhood is home to Noble Horse Stables. It is an interesting sight to see a horse grazing next to a highrise. Tonight they had a barn dance/benefit. I hardly need an excuse to get dressed up in my cowgirl duds. Line dancing left my poor boots tired and dusty.

Getting my life in line...the Brown Line.
My office, my house, my friend Vicky's house...all in line. I went from one end to the other tonight. It is a different experience at the end of the brown line. There isn't an airport, the train comes down to grade level and the houses have yards.

Chicago Marathon
Over 40,000 people ran through my neighborhood today. It was a beautiful day. I had a fantastic view of the action from the train platform. Runners streamed by underneath, some smiled and waved. It was nice feeling to yell and cheer for total strangers. I was really touched by the emotion of it all, so much so that I endeavored to complete my very own...

Shopping Marathon
The girls and I headed up to the outlet mall for some serious bargain hunting. We came out of the gates with a coupon book and a game plan. Six hours later, weary and burdened, we crossed the finish line with some personal bests.

The farmers market in Chicago's loop is a nice change from the usual lunch venues. Next Tuesday is the last day for the market, and as the growing season comes to an end, the offerings change to pumpkins, apples and dried flowers.
Most days in my life are uneventful. Was the farmers market my biggest news from today? No, decidedly not...but how do you take a picture of heartache?

10.5.03

Cruised around Pilsen on a sunny day. Different from a traditional art fair, this event in Chicago's emerging art district invites you into the studios of the artists. In most cases the loft spaces had curtained off bedroom areas and the artist was in the kitchen making smoothies or at least conversation. When can I move in?

P.S. Go Cubbies!

10.1.03

Hiked over to Marshall Fields on State Street today to grab lunch with some women from my small group. We dined at the Frango cafe and observed a Food Network show being taped. Ming Tsai is the host of East Meets West. Tasty!
