Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired |
12.24.03Finished...just in time for Christmas. Sorry Mom and Dad, nothing has changed since high school, I am
still a procrastinator. I can't wait to see what this stained glass window looks like in sunlight. All these pictures have been taken indoors.
The window measures 26" x 34"

12.22.03So this is normally the part where I pat myself on the back...and start praying that the window isn't too much out of square to fit in the oak frame. Hey, it's art! I can't let it be perfect. That wouldn't be very humble. But with this project I am planning on adding two colorful pieces to the front of this stained glass window. Each will have 17 pieces of glass. I still need to grind, foil and solder. |
12.20.03At this stage a stained glass project seems more like construction than art. Employing various pliers, goggles and gloves, I cut and grind the individual pieces of glass and fit them together with strips of H shaped lead. Real lead, we're talking about don't eat a sandwich while working lead. I think I'm on target to finish by Christmas eve. The lead will have to be sealed with cement and the decorative pieces seen in earlier pictures will be soldered onto the window. That will give the window another layer of depth...allowing me more creative freedom. |
12.15.03I don't usually proceed this way with a window, but I decided to rough cut all the colored stained glass first and lay the pieces out on the design. I plan to use lightly textured clear glass in the white areas. Usually, I start in the upper left hand corner and work my way down to the lower right piece by piece, but I wanted to see how the colors would work together before I had them fenced in with lead came. I think it's looking good so far...only seven more working days left! |
12.14.03This is the start of a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired stained glass window for my cousin's family. It was supposed to be their Christmas present last year. I'm hoping to deliver it this Christmas. Maybe the value (well over the $20 family gift budget) will make up for the tardiness. |
